The sound of crushers and presses at most of the Swan Valley’s wineries has hailed the start of wine production from vintage 2011 with Chardonnay being crushed and pressed for Sparkling wine.

The growing and ripening season leading up to harvest has been perfect with warm conditions and minimum rainfall throughout the region meaning Swan Valley winemakers, will again have premium grapes from which to produce their wine.

Daniel Pinelli, President of the Swan Valley Winemakers Association, said “The signs are that grapes this year will be again of excellent quality, in particular, we expect that the early ripening varieties of Verdelho and Chenin Blanc should make superb wines with great intensity and generous flavour.  If this weather continues we can also expect that the later ripening red varieties such as Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon will again have intense colour with deep and complex flavours.  Production of luscious fortifieds in late March will mark the end of vintage 2011.”

“We anticipate that wines from the vintage 2011 will exhibit the influence of innovative modern winemaking practices and also in some cases, reflect generations of Swan Valley winemaking experience that dates back to 1859

The first wines of the 2011 vintage should be available from most wineries and Cellar Doors in the Swan Valley from May onwards.
